Their Stories

My First Home
Tony served tours in Iraq, Afghanistan and South America. He recently moved into his apartment - the first home he can call his own outside of the military.
Meet Ronald
Ronald’s son was there to help the day we delivered the “Welcome Home” kit. After loading all of the great items into his apartment, his son took us to the side and said thank you for helping out his dad. He shared with us that this was his dad’s opportunity to get a fresh start. Ronald also was excited that he had found employment!

Curtis : Thank You Elks!
Curtis hadn’t seen a roof over his head for the last 6 years. He told us the story that he had made some bad decisions along the way, but had made big strides in moving his life forward. He was ecstatic about his new four walls and the roof over his head and now the “Welcome Home Kit” delivery was almost too much for him emotionally. He sends his thanks to all the Elks!
Life : Service : Gratitude
After delivering Reggie’s “Welcome Home” kit and assisting him in assembling and setting up everything we shared a conversation about life and about the assistance that the Elks were providing him to get back on his feet. His emotions got the best of him as he shed a few tears when he thanked us again as we hugged him good bye.

A Mother and Daughter
Debra came from a deep military family and followed in her family’s footsteps. After her time serving us, and our country, she found herself in a bad situation and ended up living in her car with her daughter. Now, with this new home along with her “Welcome Home” kit from the Elks, she feels like there is hope for her future!
A Combat Photographer
Greg simply said “I started off as a clean cut kid from North Dakota and came back from the war as a messed up man”. It has taken him years to get back to a sense of normalcy in his life and his new apartment and especially his “Welcome Home” kit from the Elks put a huge smile on his face!

Leonard : My Story
After helping him set up his new apartment, Leonard wouldn’t accept just a handshake and proceeded to give me a big hug. He then asked me if it was OK for him to give my wife a hug. A real gentleman. He also asked if he could volunteer for future deliveries!
